Research recently conducted to determine the educational level and educational needs of H&S practitioners has indicated that Southern Africa is at a severe disadvantage compared to the USA and other developed countries when it comes to educational level. This research has, however, also indicated that H&S practitioners realise that they need more training. The research has indicated that there is a strong need amongst H&S practitioners for more and better training so that they can perform their functions better (PASI Survey Feedback, Risk Management, July 2006, p.38). Other factors such as the 2010 world cup, Gautrain, the ESKOM expansions and other major projects have also created a huge demand for suitably trained H&S practitioners at various levels.
